Kyo and jitsu: empty and full in Masunaga study

Zen Shiatsu

Kyo and jitsu are the pair a Zen Shiatsu school uses to teach listening before memorizing points. This page is meant to be forwarded to the class.

Two qualities, not two clinical labels

In Shizuto Masunaga's language, kyo names what is less present, empty, or asking for support. Jitsu names what is more present, full, or defending. They orient the hand and the attention in the hara and along the extended meridian. They do not name a disease or authorize a protocol.

How they are studied at the table

Still contact comes first. Then one zone is compared with its pair, without deciding on a treatment. The student notes where the hand sinks and where it meets resistance. That note is later set beside a TCM channel, without merging the two maps.

Where to continue on Meridiania

Educational hara lives in practice. Masunaga and TCM pathways have their own comparison page. The Masunaga lineage is in the dictionary. One study session uses one layer.

Questions

Are kyo and jitsu a diagnosis?
No. On Meridiania they are Zen Shiatsu study vocabulary for the quality of contact. They do not replace a clinical assessment or a school.
Can they be mixed with WHO points in the same note?
Place them side by side, not in one protocol. Write the Masunaga layer, then on another line the WHO code you are locating.

Study reference within traditional Shiatsu/TCM frameworks. Does not diagnose or treat.
