Language of the hand
Before a code is named, the hand meets a quality. These words organise that listening. They do not label a disease.
- 7words
- kyoless tone
- jitsumore tone
Study material. It does not diagnose, prescribe, or replace your school or a health professional.
The vocabulary
Zen shiatsu
Kyo
Relatively less tone. The hand sinks easily; the tissue asks for contact and does not push back. Study it paired with jitsu, never alone.
Zen shiatsu
Jitsu
Relatively more tone. The hand meets resistance, a local fullness. It does not mean better or worse: it is the other side of kyo.

Kori
Stiffness, a knot the hand finds less elastic than the tissue beside it. A Japanese palpation word, not a diagnosis.
TCM
Empty
Xu. In texts, a quality of less. In the hand, little rebound and little presence. Compare it with fullness in the same place, not with an abstract norm.
TCM
Fullness
Shi. More response to contact. It may feel tight, warm, or simply occupied. It remains study language.
Skin
Temperature
Cooler or warmer than the neighbouring zone. Note it as a difference, not as fever or a conclusion.
Pressure
Resistance
How the tissue answers when the hand enters: it yields, holds, or pushes. Elasticity is whether it returns when you release.
How to practise it
- 1One zone
Choose hara, shoulder or calf. Do not tour the whole body.
- 2Two words
Only kyo and jitsu, or only temperature. Note the difference from the zone beside it.
- 3Then the code
When the quality is clear, open the sheet of the tsubo that falls in that place.
